"The Project House" - Kitchen
The kitchen was the last room I decided to remodel just because I knew it would be a huge job, both time consuming and expensive, but it just wasn't very functional and the layout was all wrong. Sure I probably could have lived with it but the thought of one room left undone was hard to get over... I was a little obsessed at this point.

To complete the kitchen we (my Dad and I) had to replace half the sheetrock in the room because of either poor existing plaster or damage to the walls (the damage was mainly on the "bump out" where the previous cabinets and refrigerator had been.

My main goal with the kitchen was to increase the usuable cabinet and countertops space and update the appliances and electrical outlets and fixtures. I was able to do this by adding cabinets, reducing the size of the sink, and reorganizing the appliances, and I even added a dishwasher. It's now very efficient for a smaller sized kitchen.

After - I think it's a pretty dramatic change so I wanted to show these two side by side.
Another Before shot of the kitchen from the opposite wall. The new cabinets with sink, light, and dishwasher.
We removed quite a bit of plaster from the kitchen and then insulated the outside walls. New plumbing was run for the sink ... I ended up having all the galvanized piping replaced in the house with copper and it greatly improved the water pressure. Also because we moved the gas range to the other side of the room the gas line had to be moved as well. Our good friend Dwight Sonnenberg and his son did the plumbing and successfully moved the gas line for me.
